Aucklanders Vicky Chapman and Mike Jones will be opening New Zealand’s first cat café on the North Shore!
Café patrons will be able to go to The Cat Lounge and play with cats in a special area. The cats themselves will be chosen from local shelters around Auckland.
The café was funded after a hugely successful Kickstarter campaign, and the organisers are now in the process of finding the perfect venue!
Cat cafés originated in Taiwan, but became popular in Japan. You can even now visit owl cafés! The cafés are popular in Japan, as pet ownership in a country where space is at a premium can be difficult for many people living in the city.
I am looking forward to paying a visit to New Zealand’s first cat café on my next trip to Auckland!
